The Apple Watch Series 5 was released by Apple in September 2019. It offered several new features and improvements over its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 4. Here are some key features and specifications of the Apple Watch Series 5:


Always-On Display: One of the standout features of the Series 5 was its always-on display. Unlike previous models, the Series 5's OLED display remained on at a low brightness level even when your wrist was down, making it easier to glance at the time or your notifications without raising your wrist.

Always-On Display:

The "Always-On Display" (AoD) is a feature available on certain Apple Watch models, including the Apple Watch Series 5 and later models. This feature allows the watch face to remain visible at a low brightness level even when your wrist is down or not in an active position. The primary purpose of the Always-On Display is to make it more convenient to check the time and other important information without having to raise your wrist or tap the display.

Here's how the Always-On Display works on Apple Watches that support it:

Persistent Time: With the AoD enabled, the time is always visible on the watch face, even when your wrist is down. This makes it similar to a traditional watch where you can quickly glance at the time without any specific gesture.

Dimmed Display: The display remains on, but it's dimmed to conserve battery life and avoid distraction. The brightness of the display is reduced when not actively in use to ensure it doesn't drain the battery too quickly.

Glanceable Information: In addition to the time, certain watch faces and complications can also display glanceable information, such as upcoming appointments, weather, fitness data, or notifications. These details are visible in a simplified, low-power mode.

Raise to Wake: While the Always-On Display is active, you can still use the "Raise to Wake" feature. When you raise your wrist to look at the watch, the display becomes fully active and bright for a more detailed view.

Privacy and Security: The AoD respects your privacy and security. Sensitive information like messages and notifications won't be fully visible until you raise your wrist and authenticate with a passcode, Touch ID, Face ID, or a wrist detection feature, depending on your Apple Watch model.

Customization: You can customize which watch faces and complications support the Always-On Display feature. Some watch faces are designed specifically to take advantage of this feature, while others may not be as optimized for it.

The Always-On Display is a convenient feature for quickly checking the time and important information on your Apple Watch without the need to make a specific wrist gesture or tap the display. It strikes a balance between usability and battery conservation by keeping the display on in a low-power state. It can be particularly useful for situations where it's not convenient to raise your wrist, such as during meetings or workouts.
